| Defining "True Freedom" |
At a recent speaking engagement in Northern Ireland I was asked by a young man how I would define ‘true freedom’ as it relates to the area of struggles with same-sex attractions. Did I believe that the defining mark of experiencing true freedom is that an individual is completely set free from same-sex struggles and goes on to experience heterosexual attractions? |

I have always believed as long as I can remember that there is a God, but I had no knowledge of Him. As a youth I was attracted to members of my own sex. | Praying with imagination |
Jesus once told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (Matthew 18:1) Jesus wouldn’t have had to do this unless His disciples were tempted at times to give up praying; a temptation which most of us, I’m sure, can relate to. In a hectic, sceptical world, where time is at a premium and with so many demands pressing in our lives, always praying and not giving up isn’t likely to come naturally to us. |

| Original temptation |
The majority of us are familiar, I’m sure, with the concept of original sin in Genesis 3. Sometimes, though, Christians talk as if the essence of sin is breaking rules. I remember being taught at Sunday School that Adam and Eve broke the one and only rule God gave them when they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I’ve since learned, however, that the essence of sin is far more serious than simply breaking rules. |

The media regularly reminds us of the dangers of identity theft, which according to the BBC Money Programme is growing at the rate of 500% year on year and is costing the UK economy an estimated £1.7bn a year. Some 6 million people in the UK claim to have been a victim of identity theft. One article I read recently urged me to take various precautions to secure my identity, including shredding all documents containing my personal details – “shred often and shred well” the writer insisted! |

| What is homosexuality? |
Many people are confused about what homosexuality actually is. Sometimes, people label themselves “homosexual” erroneously, creating an additional roadblock in their efforts to accept their new identity in Christ. On the other hand, others will rationalise a problem with homosexuality and refuse to confront it. This happens sometimes to parents or family members who do not want to face the fact of their loved one’s homosexuality. The following may contribute to a better understanding of the subject. |
