Going for Gold

By Jonathan, TfT Director.    This article was first published in the Winter 2012 newsletter.

medalMany of us, I’m sure, will have been greatly inspired and uplifted by the determined and focussed efforts of our Olympians and Paralympians during London 2012, and now the Commonwealth Games have begun in Glasgow. Even people who wouldn’t describe themselves as ardent sports fans were moved to tears, as they witnessed individuals and teams demonstrating huge measures of skill, strength, courage and discipline in their pursuit of a gold medal.

We know, of course, that the Games themselves are only a very small part of the story. Yes the medallists’ success is certainly down to them getting it right on the day and performing to the very best of their ability when it really counts. But their winning runs, swims, throws, matches, lifts, dives, rides and bouts are the culmination of years of arduous training, disciplined dieting and meticulous planning.

We really liked this book.  With only 80 pages divided into six chapters it does not take long to read. This small book does not attempt to cover the topic of friendship in great detail, but rather acts as a stimulus for reflection both as individuals and in groups. As its author writes in the introduction,

You will gain most from the book if you pause to think and pray as you read.
